SECURITY WATCH AFRICA BESTOWS CONTINENT’S TOP AWARDS ON GOV DICKSON, BAYELSA SECURITY OUTFIT FOR EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE IN SECURITY DUTIES
The Bayelsa State Government and its security outfit “Operation Doo Akpo have been honoured with Africa’s top security awards in recognition of its consistency and record of service delivery in security duties.
A representative of Security Watch Africa, Mr. Patrick Agbambu over the weekend presented the awards to the State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, the former Special Adviser on Security, Lt. Col. Bernard Kenebai (Rtd) and the State owned security outfit, code named “Operation Doo Akpo” during the 25th State Security Council Meeting at Government House, Yenagoa.
Governor Seriake Dickson was presented with the award of the best security/safety conscious state/provincial/regional Governor in Africa, while the former Special Adviser on Security, Lt. Col. Kenebai (Rtd), received the Golden Star award for Security Service in Nigeria and the award for the best crime bursting/ security squad in West Africa went to Operation Door-Akpor.
Receiving the awards, Governor Dickson commended Operation Doo-Akpor for doing a great job, noting that the security outfit has become a centre of security excellence.
Governor Dickson urged the security outfit to do more, while also commending Col. Kenebai for a well deserved award and his diligence and professionalism in nurturing Operation Doo-Akpor from infancy to its present enviable status.
He expressed satisfaction with the organisers for the objective manner the various award recipients were selected, adding that, it will serve as a sources of inspiration to the Government, the officers and men of the security outfit to improve on the standard that has already been set.
While dedicating the awards to the security commanders, officers and men of Operation Doo Akpo for making the State a safe haven, Governor Dickson described security as a road several highways and specially acknowledged the collaboration of the people of Bayelsans to the achievements recorded sofar in the area of security.
“I want to thank the organisers of this award for the objective manner the awardees were selected and I dedicate this award to the security commanders, officers and men and the people of the state for making the state a place of safety.
“Security is a road that has several high ways and the collaboration of the people of the state is highly commendable without which we cannot achieve the relative peace and security in the state”
Earlier presenting the awards, Mr. Patrick Agbambu of Security Watch Africa, explained that, that the massive security infrastructure in the state, determination to ensure that the people of Bayelsa State are safe, the synergy among the security outfits and the private sector working with the state government, were some of the attributes that singled out Bayelsa State for the award.
The award, which is the second for the State owned security outfit, is coming after it won the best security award in Africa at a ceremony held in Soth Africa in 2013.
