GOV DICKSON INAUGURATES GOVERNING COUNCIL OF STATE COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECH, SAYS COLLEGE IS KEY TO ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANLINESS, URGES MEMBERS TO ENSURE ITS ACCREDITATION
Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson has mandated the newly inaugurated governing council of the State College of Health Technology, Otuogidi, in Ogbia Local Government Area to intensify efforts at ensuring the accreditation of the institution.
Inaugurating the governing council of the Institute on Wednesday at Government House, Yenagoa, Governor Dickson tasked them to work out the modalities for his approval as soon as possible.
The Governor, who identified some of the numerous problems plaguing the health sector in the state, noted that, medical personnel, especially those in the rural areas do not go to work, urging the new governing council to discourage those who indulge in such habits.
Speaking further, he said the issue of sustainable environment is key to making the environment clean, adding that, the filthy environment of the state capital is unacceptable.
Governor Dickson urged the governing council to propagate and emphasize the importance of environmental sanitation by giving adequate training to environmental health officers and other heath related personnel.
“This college is very critical for manpower development in the health sector of our state, therefore, your assignment and duty in training the personnel is key.
He lamented the dearth of manpower in the various health institutions and infrastructures across the State, stressing that, it is part of their mandate to change the unfortunate situation.
Noting the enormous responsibility before the new governing council, the Bayelsa State Governor, hinted that, it took government time and wide consultation to constitute the Chairman and membership of the council and charged them to approach the assignment with all amount of commitment and seriousness.
“There is dearth of manpower to man the various health institutions and infrastructures built across the state, the board is inaugurated to change this unfortunate situation we have found ourselves”.
“I have therefore, taken a painstaking time to select this governing council and its chairman to take care of the numerous challenges before the institution”.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman of the governing council, Chief Thompson Okorotie, expressed profound gratitude for the honour done him and members of the council, adding that, it is a responsibility given them to pilot the health sector in the state.
Chief Okorotie explained that, the college will play its role of producing qualitative and functional middle cadre health science personnel, pledging to do their best to justify the confidence reposed in them.
