Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon. Seriake Dickson has assured that, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP will continue to maintain its dominance in the State, in spite of the setback the party suffered at the presidential polls.
Governor Dickson gave the assurance on Tuesday during a campaign tour to some communities in Sagbama and Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Areas of the State.
Describing the party as a credible political platform, that promotes the interest of the minorities, the Governor urged the people to remain steadfast in their support for the party.
While appreciating the people for demonstrating their support for the party, through their huge turnout and votes in the last elections, he encouraged them not to despair, but join hands with his administration to consolidate on the successes recorded so far and work for the prosperity of the State.
Governor Dickson, who expressed optimism that, the party will emerge victorious in the coming elections, urged Bayelsans to vote massively for the party’s flag bearers, whom he described as credible, intelligent, experienced and result-oriented.
He also called on the people to conduct themselves peacefully, stressing that, the government has put in place all necessary measures to maintain law and order during and after the elections.
According to Hon. Dickson, “we must consolidate the gains we have recorded in the past 16 years, under the PDP-led government and a sure way to achieve that, is to continually vote for the party’s flag bearers in the forthcoming governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
“As you all know, our Governorship election will come up later, so I urge you all to come out in your numbers as you did in the March 28th elections, to ensure victory for our candidates, who are contesting to go into the State House of Assembly.
“The candidates we are presenting to represent us in that critical arm of government are tried and tested and have proved their mettle at different times in their service to the State and humanity. We have taken time to choose them as a party, in line with our quest to making our legislature more formidable and stable.”
The Governor, who was accompanied by former Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Peremobowei Ebebi and House of Representatives member-elect, Mr. Douye Diri, used the opportunity to present the PDP State House of Assembly candidates for Sagbama constituency 2, Kolokuma/Opokuma constituency 1 and 2.
Communities visited were Sagbama town, Kaiama, Akaranbiri in Opokuma as well as Sabagreia, where he also paid courtesy calls on the traditional rulers to solicit their support towards peaceful House of Assembly polls in their domains.
In their separate remarks, the Pere of Kumbowei clan, King Jones Sufadoh Akedah, the Ibedaowei of Kolokuma, King Mozi Onya Agara, the Ibedaowei of Opokuma Kingdom, King Okpoitari Diongoli and the Amadaowei of Sabagreia, Chief Boukumo Orukari, lauded the developmental efforts of Governor Dickson and pledged their continued support.
