CNPP CONDEMNS BOYCOTT OF RESCHEDULED ASSEMBLY ELECTION IN BAYELSA……..SAYS AGITATORS ARE MISGUIDED
The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, (CNPP), Bayelsa State chapter, has dissociated itself from the call for the boycott of the rescheduled House of Assembly election in the State by the twelve registered political parties, including All Progressive Congress, (APC).
Twelve registered political parties, including All Progressives Congress, (APC), had on Friday in Yenagoa attributed their decision to stay away to lack of confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) and the security agencies.
The reasons adduced for the boycott, according to a statement signed by Chairman of the CNPP, Comrade Lucky Akpeli are not strong enough to call for the boycott.
The CNPP, with 24 membership excluding the ruling PDP and APC stated that, whoever that is boycotting the election, is doing so at its own peril, calling on the INEC to go ahead with the conduct of the election.
Calling on the people to turn out en masse to exercise their voting rights tomorrow, the CNPP submitted that, boycotting the election, is as good as conceding defeat.
It assured the people of their safety, during and after the conduct of the election, revealing that, security operatives have put necessary security measures in place to curtail the activities of miscreants.
His words, with less than 24 hours to the conduct of the election, it is wrong on the part of any political party or its agent to boycott the election. It is only an injunction obtained from the Court of law can stop the conduct of election.
“If you are having problems with INEC or security agencies, you know where to go. It is not about the Press conference. Such matters can only be resolved in the Court and not on the pages of newspapers.
I am highly surprised that, people who are aspiring to become members of the legislative arm of government could descend low to this level. Boycotting election at this ungodly hour is not only unconstitutional, but undemocratic.
