OGBIA/NEMBE ROAD TO BE DELIVERED IN DECEMBER SAYS CONTRACTOR, ……….GOVT RE-ASSURE BAYELSANS ON COMPLETION OF PROJECTS
The contractor handling the Ogbia Nembe road has given December this year as the deadline to deliver the project to the Bayelsa State Government to enhance socio-economic activities of the area.
The project being handled by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in partnership with the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has been on the drawing board for over 15 years.
Managing Director of SETRACO, Mr. Fayez Khalaf, the contractor in charge of the project, gave the assurance in an interview with Government House correspondents, shortly after a meeting with Governor Seriake Dickson, his Deputy, Retired Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, Commissioner of Works, Barr. Lawrence Ehwrudjakpor and other top government functionaries.
According to Mr. Khalaf, though, the state government is not part of the collaboration on the project, Governor Dickson decided to intervene by injecting N3 billion to expedite the completion of the senatorial road and expressed confidence, that the road will be completed by the end of this year.
The contractor, who noted that the state government and the people of Nembe have been supportive, also said the Ogobiri bridge project in Southern Ijaw local government area has been completed and ready for commissioning.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Retired Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah explained that, the government’s intervention was as a result of the stoppage of work on the road and expressed joy that the people would be able to drive on the road.
The Deputy Governor said, the government was able to resolve all the communal problems bordering on the road towards ensuring that, there were no disruptions on the project.
In his contribution, the Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Barr. Lawrence Ehwrudjakpor said, the government has been partnering with SETRACO on a number of projects, to fast track development in the state.
