The Central Working Committee of the Governor Seriake Dickson Football Tournament, tagged, “The Restoration Cup 2015” says, the remaining teams that would feature in the Round of 16, would emerge this weekend.
The Deputy Director General of the Restoration Cup, Ono Akpe, disclosed this in Yenagoa, while briefing news men on how far the tournament had gone.
While commending both the teams that have been knocked-out and those still in the race, for participating in the tournament, Ono Akpe, also expressed his gratitude to the various communities hosting the matches for their large turn-out and peaceful conduct, that has seen the smooth running of the competition to its present stage.
“The competition has been really exciting, particularly, with the large turn out of spectators and supporters at the match venues, coupled with the heavy downpours witnessed at some of the games. It goes to tell how important football is to this people, so, I must thank the communities, especially, the youths for not only coming out en-masse, but also for conducting themselves well. We have not witnessed any violence between teams or their supporters, and that is really commendable”.
He however poined out that, matches in the Round of 16 have been shifted, occasioned logistic concerns on the part of the organisers and some of the participating teams.
The DDG, further explained that, some of the qualification matches in Ekeremor and Brass Local Government Areas will be decided in the next 24 hours to produce the last set teams for the round of 16.
“We have played few matches in Ekeremor, and non in Brass, reasons being the challenges of going to and fro, due to the long distance, but now that we are through with other LGAs, we will face the two Local Councils, so, that we can conclude this phase by the weekend, all things being equal, after which draws would be made for the Round of 16 to the finals”.
The teams that have made it to the Round of 16, include Dynamic Soccer Academy of Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, Otausegha Movers FC and Blessed Diamond FC of Ogbia LGA and the Bayelsa United Feeders and Pirate Athletics of Sagbama LGA.
