We are obliged to make this statement in accordance with the policy thrust of this administration especially as regards the state’s finances.
This is one way to show accountability and to dispel rumors, half truths and outright falsehood that is usually dished out to confuse and incite unsuspecting Bayelsans.
Therefore we want to make public that the state government has received the sum of fourteen billion five hundred million naira (#14,500,000,000.00) only in respect of excess deduction from the state allocation by the federal government for the repayment of Paris and London club debt.
In the light of this development, His Excellency, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson has in line with his commitment to the people of the state particularly the civil service and in accordance with the agreement reached for receipt of this refund, have directed accordingly that 50% of the money received be used to pay pensions and full salaries for the month of October and November 2016 as soon as possible.
This decision is because the governor and the restoration government acknowledges and appreciate the sacrifices of civil servants and highly commend them for their understanding and patience with the government in these trying times.
As a responsible government, we thought it expedient to bring to the knowledge of the people of the state the current financial status as the government considers it appropriate to inform the people receipt of these refund.
Further more, we urge all civil servants and our people to continue to show support as we move into the new year full of expectations for both the civil service and the entire people of Bayelsa state.
Hon. Commissioner Finance, Bayelsa State.
